Week 22

Come As You Are

One night, as I was driving alone in my car, I heard the song, “Come As You Are” by David Crowder. The lyrics drew me in.

Come out of sadness from wherever you've been
Come broken hearted let rescue begin
Come find your mercy
Oh sinner, come kneel

Earth has no sorrow
That Heaven can't heal

So, lay down your burdens
Lay down your shame
All who are broken
Lift up your face
Oh wanderer, come home
You're not too far
So, lay down your hurt
Lay down your heart
Come as you are

There's hope for the hopeless
And all those who've strayed
Come sit at the table
Come taste the grace
There's rest for the weary
Rest that endures

Earth has no sorrow
That Heaven can't cure

Come as you are
Fall in His arms
Come as you are

There's joy for the morning
Oh sinner, be still

Earth has no sorrow
That Heaven can't heal

Too often we think we need to fix ourselves for God. We can’t believe He could really love us until we change. We can’t believe He would want to use us for Kingdom work the way we are. It might be because we don't think we are “spiritual” enough or because of something in our past. For others we think we need to lose our excess weight before He will completely love us. Do you think you have to fix something about yourself before you can be completely accepted by God?

You need to hear this - that isn’t true. If God wanted you to fix yourself, then why did He send His son to the cross.

Maybe you think there is something so horrible in your past that makes you unworthy of His love and forgiveness. If you believe this, wouldn’t it mean that Jesus’ death on the cross wasn’t enough. It wasn’t finished on the cross.

We all have sinned and we all need grace and forgiveness. When you believe in Jesus and His resurrection, you are forgiven. When we don’t fully get this it keeps us from drawing closer to God (and it’s not because He’s pushing you back). Don’t push away from God because of your past, pull into Him. He stands with open arms, waiting to comfort you.

"Come to me, all of you who are weary and loaded down with burdens, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

I am flying home from a conference that New Life Ministries puts on called “Lose It For Life”.  I am so thankful that for the past 5 years I have been able to speak and lead workouts at this life changing event. I have never been to this conference without shedding tears of joy. I see people who for so long have believed they weren’t lovable. The wounds from their past and their extra weight make them feel unlovable. Unloved by others but even more sadly unlovable by God.

During the stretching time of our final workout together I played, ‘Come As You Are”. My tears started because I saw something in some of their eyes. They were ready to run into His arms. They believe that when God said, “come to me” He was talking to them. They understood that “earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal”

The night I first heard this song when I was driving alone in my car, I knew God wanted me to play it at the conference. I knew it was a message He wanted them to hear and I believe it’s a message He wants you to hear.

Weekly Goals

Each week you will be asked to set goals. Your goals can be about faith, fitness or food (or all 3). I highly recommend that you write them down and post them on your mirror or someplace you will see them often. When setting goals make them action oriented goals, not result goals.  Stay focused on doing the next right thing and be patient with the results.
